What is happening during peri/menopause?

Perimenopause marks the beginning of the body’s transition out of the reproductive years.

It is the gradual “retirement” of the ovaries, where hormone production (primarily estrogen and progesterone) begins to decline. This stage can last several years and often begins in the mid-30s to early 50s.

Menopause is scientifically defined as:

The complete cessation of menstruation for 12 consecutive months.

At this point, ovulation has stopped, and the ovaries no longer produce the same levels of reproductive hormones.

However, the story doesn’t end there—because your body still needs hormonal support.
